Springfield College (founded in 1885 in Springfield, Massachusetts) is a private university with a “Humanics” philosophy at its core, emphasizing a balanced education for the spirit, mind and body. The 100-acre campus, which houses undergraduate, master's and doctoral programs, is famous as the birthplace of basketball (invented by James Naismith in 1891).
