Marion Military Institute (MMI) is located in Marion, Alabama, and was founded in 1842, making it the oldest military junior college in the United States. MMI is part of the Alabama Community College System and offers a two-year associate degree program focused on developing young people with leadership skills and a sense of responsibility. The academy features an Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) program and an Early Commissioning Program (ECP), offering students the opportunity to earn the rank of Second Lieutenant in the Army within two years. Additionally, MMI provides federal military academy preparatory courses to help students prepare for admission to institutions such as West Point, the Naval Academy, and the Air Force Academy. The college emphasizes holistic education, stressing discipline, academics, and physical training. All cadets are required to join the officer corps and reside on campus. The campus features several historic buildings, including the chapel and LaFleur Hall, both listed on the National Register of Historic Places. MMI upholds the motto “Truth, Honor, Service” and has produced over 200 generals and admirals.
