Alfred University was founded in 1836 and is located in Alfred, New York, at the foot of the Allegheny Mountains. It covers an area of 232 acres and has 400 acres of off-campus natural resources. The school is one of the second oldest coeducational institutions in the United States. It advocates interdisciplinary courses and personalized majors, with a student-teacher ratio of about 13:1.
